INSPIRATIONS AND TECHNIQUES
Growing up near a national forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania may explain why I draw inspiration from nature. The whimsical sense of my work derives from a childhood love of fairy tales and animated cartoon classics. The roots of my aesthetics lie in a sound education in the ceramic arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania with the legendary professor Frank Ross (d.1980).
As for techniques, I hand-build and throw on the wheel, using stoneware and porcelain clays. Each piece is designed and crafted with attention to finishing touches and visual / tactile aesthetics. Functional pieces (bowls, pitchers, platters etc.) are food, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.
Did I say I LOVE teaching? I hope my wonderful students at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL receive as much joy and inspiration from me as I do from teaching them.
My creative ventures in clay offer me endless challenge, learning opportunities and joy. I hope you enjoy the results. Please email your comments or questions; love to hear from you.
